Prophy: A dental prophylaxis is a regular dental cleaning that is performed on patients with healthy mouths. Scaling and polishing to is done to remove plaque, calculus and stain above the gum line.
Debribement: If it has been some time since your last dental cleaning, it may take more than one visit to remove all of the tartar build-up. A debribement usually consist of two visits.
Scaling and Root Planning: Scaling is the removal of plaque and calculus above and below the gum line. Root planning is the removal of toxins and microorganisms from the root surface. This therapeutic treatment is performed on patients with periodontal disease. The desired outcome is to have tissue reattachment to the tooth and shrink the periodontal pockets to manageable depths. The patients cooperation with home care and regular maintenance visits are crucial to see results.
Perio Maintenance: This is a cleaning that will help to maintain and improve the health of your gums once Scaling and Root Planning is performed. Most patients are seen three to four times per year so we can continue to monitor the gum disease. Every visit will consist of cleaning above and below the gum line where indicated and subgingival irrigation.
